There are many different STI's, the most common ones that we see and test for include chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, bacterial vaginosis, genital warts and herpes.
How will I know if I have an STI?
Every STI is different, some have noticeable symptoms and some do not. Because of this you may not know that you have an STI so we would always advise you to have a check up if you have had unprotected sex.
What are the symptoms of an STI?
Some STI's do not have any symptoms at all, but symptoms may include unusual discharge, pain when passing urine, soreness, blisters, itching or irritation around the genital area and pain during and after sex. If you are worried about anything at all or are experiencing any of these symptoms please call us for advice.
Will other people be able to tell if I have/have had an STI?
No, not usually although this can depend on the STI. The only STI's that may be noticeable in the genital area at the time of infection are genital warts or herpes and these would need to be treated as soon as possible.
If I have one STI am I at risk of others?
If you have had unprotected sex you are at risk of more than one STI. However, if you have had a full STI screen and the result showed that you have one STI, you will not be at risk of others unless you have had unprotected sex again with someone who is infected. This could result in you being re-infected.
Can you have an STI more than once?

Am I more likely to get an STI in the future if I have had one before?
